Yarraville Market II

Despite the constant rain and having the pokiest stall in the building, I managed to pay for my stall and make enough profit to shout myself Nandos and a DVD.

My Monkey Love canvas was an attention grabber.

This girl was the daughter of one of my stall holder neighbours. The lady with the face painting stall painted my monkey on her cheek.

The Ipod Wallets were as popular as ever.

My T-Shirts made their debut appearance.

After slogging away in the residential Interior Design industry, struggling with moral dilemmas (creativity or cash?), existential angst (what am I actually contributing to the world!?) and personality clashes (botoxed, zombie, old money housewives and psychotic, backstabbing decorators) I managed to step back far enough for an objective view, and did not like what I could see.

I was working in a luxury industry, selling things to people I did not like. Things they were unwilling to open their fat wallets for. Things they thought would make them happy (which didn't) and they were ultimately ungrateful for.

No more.

MIKE.ID is my attempt at putting this right. An attempt to bring something a little more down-to-earth and genuine to this design endeavour. And an attempt to be true to myself and my sense of style.

Hence, MIKE.
